This statue, the "Standing Juichimen-Kannon-Bosatsu," is reported to be a work by Gyouki Bosatsu. It is also known -in an allusion to the story behind the area's name- as "Chichi-Kannon" or "Milk Kannon." Around 800 years ago when Nijoin Sanuki was walking around this area for his ascetic training, he met his wet nurse on this "saka" (Japanese for hill). For that reason this place is known as "Osaka."
